Food Not Bombs believes that society and government should value human life over material wealth. Many of the problems in the world stem from this simple crisis in values. By giving away food to people in need in public places, we directly dramatize the level of hunger in this country and the surplus of food being wasted. We also call attention to the failures of this society to support those within it while funding the forces of war and violence. We are committed to the use of non-violent direct action to change society. It is by working today to create sustainable institutions that prefigure the kind of society we want to live in, and that build a vital and caring movement for progressive social change.

Welcome to the online reference for the Winona chapter of Food Not Bombs.  FNB is a cultural phenomena that originated thousands of years ago; whenever communities gather around the soup-pot, whenever a community hosted a block party, every pot luck and picnic.  FNB is an idea, more so, than a group.  It is the radical idea that food is not a commodity, in fact,  it is  necessity.  Hunger is a mutual condition.  The misdistribution of food in this nation (and many others) is an economic issue, not a scarcity issue.  One of the first groups of folks to call themselves "Food Not Bombs" came from San Francisco (the first was from Cambridge), and they have created and formed many standards associated with the name Food Not Bombs.  Since the eruption of FNB, however, there are now many organizations working independently from on another.  Every FNB is unique and similar simultaneously, our project in Winona is no exception.  We plan to label and serve primarily vegan and vegetarian dishes for free at least once a week.  We will prepare our food with the generous donations of local businesses who will be kept anonymous.  We also plan to serve recovered food to those folks who don't mind a little dumpster diver's delight.  We plan on having sealed food available for free.  This food can (and should) be taken  home, to work, to the soccer game and shared amongst friends and family for free.   We are ALWAYS in need of donated food and kitchen supplies, please contact us if you are interested in donating, or simply stop by either our Sunday servings at Windom park or our Wednesday meeting at the Blue Heron.  We are always open to new volunteers, serving locations, ideas and new friends.  Please don't be shy,  let our common tastes bond us together!  We are looking for  a consistent place to store food and supplies.  We have a bike trailer to transport rations to hungry folk anywhere, volunteers, a informational video (available for classes and study groups) and everything else we need to feed the masses.  So come, see what we are all about.  We plan on having  recipes, anti-militarism and organic gardening literature, and plenty of free goodies for you at each serving.  See you there!
